New Walnut Bowl – Hand-Carved
I am excited to introduce my latest creation: a hand-carved walnut bowl, skillfully crafted from a walnut burl. This stunning piece showcases the natural beauty and intricate grain patterns of the wood, making it a perfect centerpiece for your home.

The Process: This walnut wood was sourced right here on Banks Peninsula, Christchurch, from an end-of-life tree. It was carefully cut, dried, and then meticulously shaped into this sculptural piece, revealing the wood's inherent beauty. Note the striking natural edge, a testament to the wood's organic form, natural imperfections from knots and insect activity, and the rich color variations throughout the bowl.
Size: Length 260mm - Width 210mm - Height 110mm.

Tōtara Platter – A Unique Touch

My Tōtara platter, with its sleek finish and distinctive gouge marks texture, adds a touch of elegance to any setting. Hand-carved with precision, this platter is a testament to the timeless appeal of Tōtara wood and my dedication to quality craftsmanship.
The Process: This platter was carefully gouged out, leaving distinctive carving marks that add to its unique character. To further enhance its natural beauty, the wood was then burned to bring out the hidden grain, followed by a finish of natural oils to protect and nourish the wood.

Books I've Been Listening To
While carving these beautiful pieces, I've been engrossed in "Shantaram." Having visited India and connected with work done in a slum there, I was immediately drawn to its vivid portrayal of Mumbai's vibrant culture and the resilience of its people. This captivating story has been a constant companion during my creative process. "Shantaram" tells the story of Lin, an escaped convict who finds redemption in the heart of Mumbai, building a life within a slum community. The novel explores powerful themes of love, betrayal, and the human spirit. I’m not finished yet but would highly recommend a read or like me a listen.
